Located within walking distance of Parliament Hill, the University of Ottawa is among Canada’s top 10 research universities. Founded in 1848, it is the largest bilingual (English-French) university in the world. The University of Ottawa offers more than 450 programs in 10 faculties and a co-operative education program amongst the top five in the country. A major economic force in the Ottawa area, it boasts more than 40,000 students, 5,000 employees and 180,000 alumni.

The Faculty of Engineering is composed of three departments (Chemical and biological, Civil, and Mechanical Engineering) and of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Over 110 tenured or tenure-track professors, 65 support staff, a number of part-time and adjunct professors and other contractual personnel are engaged in the education of about 2,000 undergraduate students and more than 650 graduate students. The Faculty of Engineering offers undergraduate programs in both regular and co-operative modes. A number of graduate programs leading to graduate certificates and diplomas and to M.Eng., M.A.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees are offered in a vast array of engineering and computer science disciplines, including many interdisciplinary programs.
